Osteopathy for hip and thigh pain

In this Article

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS FOR HIP/THIGH PAIN?

  • Osteopathy is effective in gentle joint and soft tissue mobilisation.

  • Laser Therapy is very effective for osteoarthritis by helping to reduce inflammation and pain.

  • Shockwave Therapy is very effective for tendon problems.

  • IDD Therapy is excellent for trapped nerves.

Common Causes of HIP/THIGH PAIN

  • Repetitive stress or overuse injuries from activities such as running, cycling, or squatting in the gym can cause hip bursitis and/or tendon pain especially in the iliotibial band. Shockwave Therapy is effective for tendon problems.

  • Direct trauma to the hip area from falls or impact can result in tendon or ligament damage. Trauma can also affect the joint labrum or, at worst, fractures.

  • Arthritis. Age-related degeneration of the hip can lead to chronic  pain when weight bearing. The hip is the most often replaced joint in the human body because it is critical as a weight bearing structure. Gentle osteopathy and Laser Therapy can help soothe the resulting pain.

  • Referred pain and trapped nerves. Referred pain from tapped nerves in the lower back can often be misleading and perceived as a hip issue. IDD Therapy is excellent for trapped nerves. Knee problems can also generate thigh pain which can be misconstrued as a hip problem.

  • Groin pain can often be driven by hip osteoarthritis and/or adductor tendinopathy.

  • Bursitis. The bursa in the hip (trochanteric bursa) is a very common source of pain that occurs over the hip joint itself.

  • Iliotibial band pain. This can often be confused with sciatic pain because it also causes pain down the side of your thigh. Shockwave Therapy is excellent for this condition.

  • Calcification of tendons. This is a common problem in hip tendons. Shockwave Therapy can be very effective.

  • Poor posture and biomechanics leading to imbalances and muscle weakness in the hip and surrounding areas.

  • Previous surgery or injury to the hip, which can cause inflammation and irritation of the bursae.

  • Certain medical conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, or diabetes that increase risk for bursitis.

  • Genetic predisposition to bursitis or other musculoskeletal conditions.
