FOR BACK PAIN

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS FOR LOWER BACK PAIN?

  • Osteopathy is effective in gentle joint and soft tissue mobilisation.

  • Laser Therapy is very effective for osteoarthritis by helping to reduce inflammation and pain.

  • Shockwave Therapy is very effective for tendon problems.

  • IDD Therapy is excellent for trapped nerves.

Common Causes of LOWER BACK PAIN

  • Sciatica. A herniated disc is a condition where the soft cushioning material between the vertebrae in your spine pushes out through a crack in the tough outer layer, causing pain and discomfort. IDD Therapy is excellent for trapped nerves caused by herniated discs. We can also arrange an MRI scan to identify accurately which nerves are trapped.

  • Aging and wear-and-tear on the spine can weaken the discs, making them more susceptible to herniation. The ageing process or a lifetime of heavy can also lead to bony spurs developing on vertebra or joints that may also trapped nerves. We can also arrange an MRI scan to identify accurately which nerves are trapped.

  • Lifting technique. Strenuous and frequent lifting of heavy objects can put pressure on the discs and cause them to herniate. Often poor lifting technique will also cause spinal joint damage in conjunction with soft tissue strains involving both muscles and ligaments. Gentle osteopathy is effective for helping your symptoms.

  • Posture. This can link with genetics but is also closely associated with desk top ergonomics and your seated position in your car.

  • Genetics may play a role in some cases, as certain people are born with weaker discs that are more prone to herniation.

  • Traumatic injuries, such as a fall or car accident, can also cause a disc to herniate. Often damage is also generated that affects the spinal joints, vertebra bodies and soft tissues. Osteopathy can be used in combination with IDD Therapy to provide effective relief.

  • Osteoporosis. A loss of bone density can cause lower back pain and there is also a risk of stress fractures. We can also arrange an MRI scan to identify any fractures or order a bone density scan.

  • Arthritis. This can affect the joints in the spine (or facet joints) causing joint restriction and pain and bony spur development.

  • Other conditions. There are other conditions such as Ankylosing Spondylitis or Scheuermann’s or Spondylolistheses.
