Directions and Parking FAQ's

Directions & Parking for Buxton Osteopathy Clinic?
  • The Waitrose car park next to the clinic is the best place to park where there is also free car park if you have a residence permit on the left-hand side as you enter.
  • If you are local, we’re opposite the Railway Hotel and the clinic is difficult to miss as we have a skeleton hanging outside the door.
  • If you’re not local and you’re inbound on the A53 from Leek , you pass Buxton Railways Station and you will then see the Waitrose car Park on your right-hand side.
  • If you are inbounding on the A6 please proceed to the Wetherspoons roundabout and pass underneath the viaduct, and you’ll see the clinic on the left-hand side opposite the Railway Hotel.
  • If you live locally, we’re opposite Bakewell Travel on the A6 at 7B Buxton Road. The clinic is well known for having a skeleton hanging outside, so we’re difficult to miss.
  • Parking in Bakewell is paid for parking, unless you have a resident’s parking permit. It’s best to park in the centre of town, which is about a five-minute walk from the clinic.
  • The best thing to do is to walk to the main roundabout where you will find the Rutland Hotel. The A6 crosses the roundabout, and you need to follow the A6 towards Buxton, and you’ll see us, on the left-hand side, about 80 yards up the road, and again, just for reference, you’ll see the skeleton, and the clinic has a green fascia.

Osteopathy FAQ's

What conditions can Osteopathy help with?
  • Osteopaths can help with most musculoskeletal complaints such as back pain, neck pain, joint problems and muscle strains, sciatica and even headaches.
  • We also help people with postural problems, sports injuries, and osteoarthritis.
  • It’s about improving mobility, easing pain, and helping you to feel better.
  • We also offer specialised treatments programs such as our Buxton Ankle, Heel, Elbow or Shoulder programs that use the latest evidence-based treatment technologies. For complex spinal issues we also have our specialised Buxton Back Care Program that uses cutting edge IDD Therapy.
  • When you come for your first osteopathy consultation, we’ll start by taking a detailed case history — asking about your symptoms, medical background, and lifestyle.
  • Next, we’ll do a physical examination, looking at your posture, movement, and any areas of tension or pain.
  • We’ll explain what we find in simple terms and discuss a treatment plan tailored to suit you.
  • You’ll usually receive some hands-on treatment in the first session, along with advice on exercises or posture.
  • Our goal is to help you feel better, safely and effectively.
    • This entirely depends on your condition, how long you have had it, the severity of it.
    • Many people feel improvement after one or two sessions.

    • We will discuss a treatment plan with you, and we will continually monitor your response to treatment.

  • Our goal is to help you recover as quickly and safely as possible.
  • At Buxton and Bakewell Osteopathy Clinics we integrate a wide-ranging approach that combines Osteopathy with latest best evidence-based treatment technologies  such as IDD Therapy, Radial and Focused Shockwave Therapy and Laser therapy.

  • A chiropractor mainly treats joints, especially the spine, using specific adjustments to relieve pain and improve function.
  • A physiotherapist helps restore movement through exercise.
  • All aim to reduce pain and improve mobility but use different approaches.
  • We integrate all these approaches into our practice.
  • Yes—osteopathy is generally very safe.
  • Osteopaths are highly trained professionals who take a full detailed medical history and check that treatment is right for you.
  • We always explain what we’re doing and work gently, adapting care to suit your age, health, and condition.
  • We also integrate osteopathy with latest safe evidence-based treatment technologies such as IDD Therapy, both Radial and Focused Shockwave Therapy and Laser therapy making our clinic unique compared to other clinics.

IDD Therapy FAQ's

What is IDD Therapy, and can it help with sciatica?
  • The answer is a definitive ‘yes’.
  • This is why we bought the equipment in 2016 because we realised that sciatica is so commonplace.
  • Since then, we have treated 100’s people just like you as part of The Buxton Back Care Program for Sciatica.
  • IDD Therapy is a very gentle, non-invasive treatment that uses targeted computer controlled pulling forces to relieve pressure on discs and trapped nerves.
  • It’s designed to help conditions like sciatica by reducing disc bulges, easing nerve irritation, and promoting natural healing.
  • This safe alternative to surgery or injections helps many people with sciatica regain comfort and function.
  • The number sessions you require typically ranges from 10 to 20 sessions.
  • We recommend two sessions per week to obtain the best results.
  • No two people are alike in their presentation.
  • How many treatments you have depends on the severity of your condition, how long you’ve had symptoms, and how your body responds to treatment.
  • Most people begin to feel improvement within the first few sessions.
  • We will assess your progress and adjust your treatment plan as needed to make sure you get the best results.
  • We provide specialist care for spinal stenosis and herniated discs in lower backs and necks as these are key conditions as part of our Buxton Back Care Program.
  • IDD Therapy, a gentle, non-invasive treatment is designed to relieve pressure on spinal nerves, reduce pain, and improve mobility.
  • These can be spinal nerves in either your lower back or neck.
  • IDD Therapy targets the cause of your discomfort, helping you avoid surgery and get back to daily activities.
  • IDD Therapy is a very effective treatment for sciatica, herniated or prolapsed or slipped or degenerative discs and spinal stenosis.
  • We have been doing IDD Therapy for over 10 years, and we are experienced practitioners and we know who IDD Therapy will be most beneficial for.
  • At our last clinical audit, we achieved a success rate of 85%.
  • Not everyone is eligible for IDD Therapy and sometimes interventional procedures (although uncommon) such as surgery may be more suitable.
  • Yes, you can often still have IDD Therapy even if you’ve had previous spinal surgery, but this does depend on the type of surgery.
  • If you have had surgery that includes spinal implants, which is uncommon, such as metal work or other devices IDD Therapy is not suitable for you.
  • For most patients with a surgical history such as a discectomy IDD Therapy is a good choice because it is a gentle, non-invasive treatment designed to target your disc and nerve issues.
  • A full assessment is essential to ensure it’s safe and suitable for you.
  • Yes. It is a very carefully controlled treatment and comfortable and relaxing and sometimes even patients often fall asleep during the 26-minute session.
  • It is a pain- free treatment for back and neck conditions like herniated discs and trapped nerves.
  • It uses precise, computer-controlled movements to decompress the spine without the need for surgery or injections.
  • IDD Therapy is non-invasive and clinically proven to reduce pain and improve your mobility.
  • We will assess your condition during a detailed examination on an initial consultation, and if imaging is required, we’ll advise you.
  • We can organise an MRI for you.
  • We have a rapid referral system which usually means you have your scan within a few days at a cheap and affordable price.
  • If you already have an MRI, bring it along with you even if it’s just the radiology report — it can help guide your care.

Shockwave FAQ's

What is shockwave therapy and how does it work?
  • We use both Focused Shockwave and Radial Shockwave therapy.
  • These non-invasive treatments use sound waves to help your body heal.
  • The sound or pressure waves increase blood flow, break down scar tissue, and encourage new tissue growth.
  • Radial Shockwave is very effective for chronic tendon problems such as plantar fasciitis and tennis and golfer’s elbow.
  • Focused Shockwave can be directed to much greater tissue depths than Radial Shockwave with greater precision.
  • We use Focused Shockwave for knee, hip and shoulder osteoarthritis.
  • Shockwave Therapy reduces your pain and speeds up recovery, all without the need for surgery or injections.
  • Focused Shockwave therapy delivers precise, high-energy waves that penetrate deeper into tissues, making it ideal for targeting specific, deep-seated joint problems such as osteoarthritis.
  • Radial Shockwave therapy uses lower-energy waves that spread outwards, treating larger, more superficial areas.
  • Both stimulate healing and reduce pain, but Focused Shockwave is typically used for pinpoint accuracy, while Radial Shockwave is better for broader treatment zones.
  • Radial Shockwave therapy is an evidence-based treatment that is great for long-term conditions tendon issues like Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow, and calcific shoulder tendinitis. This is why we have specialised programs that use Shockwave called the Buxton Ankle, Heel, Elbow and Shoulder Care Programs.
  • Focused shockwave therapy delivers precise, high-energy waves that penetrate deeper into tissues, making it ideal for targeting specific, deep-seated joint problems such as osteoarthritis.
  • Shockwave often used when rest, exercises, or other treatments haven’t worked.
  • It helps your body heal by stimulating the injured area, and many people see lasting results after only a short course of treatment.
  • Most patients experience mild discomfort during treatment, but it is well tolerated.
  • The initial discomfort typically fades as the area becomes desensitised as it is being treated.
  • We will adjust the intensity of stimulus depending on your comfort level and can gradually ramp it up to minimise discomfort.
  • Shockwave Therapy purposefully creates an inflammatory response in injured soft tissue, so you may also experience mild discomfort following treatment.
  • Patients should not apply ice or take anti-inflammatories after Shockwave treatment, as this will decrease the inflammatory healing response.
  • The average number of shockwave therapy sessions is between three and six, with treatments usually spaced a week apart.
  • It depends on your condition and how your body responds.
  • Some people feel better after just a couple of sessions, while others need the full course.
  • We’ll always review your progress and adjust your treatment plan to you.

Laser Therapy FAQ's

What is Low Level Laser Therapy?
  • Low Level Laser Therapy, or LLLT, is a non-invasive well evidence-based treatment that uses low-intensity light to stimulate healing in tissues.
  • It’s often used for pain relief, reducing inflammation, and speeding up recovery from injuries.
  • The laser light helps boost cellular function without generating heat or causing damage.
  • LLLT is commonly used for conditions like arthritis, sports injuries, and back or neck pain.
  • Many people choose it as a drug-free option for pain relief and faster healing.
  • LLLT can be helpful for a wide range of conditions including joint pain, muscle strains, tendonitis, arthritis, back pain, neck pain, and nerve injuries.
  • It is used to support healing by reducing swelling and promoting tissue repair.
  • LLLT is a safe, non- invasive treatment that supports natural tissue repair and recovery without drugs or surgery.
  • Yes — Low Level Laser Therapy is considered very safe when performed by a trained professional.
  • The light used is non-thermal and does not cause any tissue damage.
  • There are very few side effects, and most people find the treatment comfortable and pain-free.
  • A typical LLLT session lasts between 10 to 30 minutes, depending on the area being treated and the condition.
  • Your practitioner will recommend the right treatment time for you based on your individual needs and goals.
  • The number of treatments depends on your condition and how your body responds.
  • Some people feel improvement after just a few sessions, while others may need a course of 6 to 12 treatments for best results.
  • We’ll always review your progress and adjust your treatment plan to suit you.
  • No — LLLT is painless.
  • Most people feel nothing during the treatment, or they might notice a gentle warmth or tingling in the area being treated.
  • There’s no downtime afterwards, so you can return to your normal activities straight away.
