OSTEOPATHY FOR KNEE AND LOWER LEG PAIN

In this Article

WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS FOR KNEE PAIN?

  • Osteopathy is effective in gentle joint and soft tissue mobilisation.

  • Shockwave Therapy is excellent for stubborn tendon problems.

  • Laser Therapy is very effective for osteoarthritis by helping to reduce inflammation and pain.

Common Causes of KNEE PAIN

  • Injury or trauma. A sudden injury or trauma to the knee, such as a fall or sports-related accident, can damage important structures in the knee. This can often result in internal damage affecting cartilage, tendons and important ligaments such as medial and lateral collateral ligaments and cruciate ligaments.

  • Arthritis. Certain types of arthritis, such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, can lead to chronic knee pain. This builds up over time affecting the lining of the knee joint resulting in chronic pain. Laser Therapy is effective for soothing osteoarthritic pain.

  • Repetitive strain. Repetitive activities or overuse of the knee joint can cause strain and inflammation, resulting in pain. This can  often lead to kneecap (or patella) pain or bursitis and tendon injuries. The iliotibial band or the quadriceps and hamstring tendons are key tendons.

  • Kneecap pain. This can occur for several reasons such as deterioration of the knee cap (or patella) itself or because the patella is not tracking properly.

  • Bursitis. The most common bursitis presentation is housemaids’ knee or Baker’s cyst.

  • Poor posture and alignment. Poor posture and imbalances in muscle strength can put stress on the knee joint (and patella) leading to pain.

  • Structural issues. Structural issues within the knee joint, such as meniscal tears or ligament injuries, can result in knee pain.

  • Medical conditions. Certain medical conditions such as gout, infections can also cause knee pain.

  • Genetics. Some people may be genetically predisposed to certain knee conditions that can cause pain.

  • Trousers too tight! Excess weight can put added pressure on the knees, increasing the risk of developing knee pain.
